I4J e-Business Roundtable

Towards the realization of the Nigeria Internet Group's (NIG's) goal of promoting the Internet as a platform for creating jobs, The Group launched the Internet for jobs (I4J) Initiative on July 12, 2007, with the aim of showcasing the Internet as a means of starting up new businesses or expanding existing ones, thereby, creating jobs for Nigerians.

Futuresofts MD, Nkemdilim Uwaje was nominated as one of the judges at the event, held at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Ikeja, Lagos. The panel of judges consisted of high-level IT and e-commerce experts.

Over 30 youths stepped up to showcase their business ideas and innovative solutions that are focused on spurring job creation in Nigeria.
A grant of One million Naira (N1m) will be awarded to the most successful applicant for the development to an e-Commerce web portal and marketing of their online services.

The projects ranged from Online Comic Books, Social Networks for Universities, Online Gaming/Gambling Sites, Outsourcing Portals, Online Job Portals, Online market places to Cybercafe software driven by online marketing.

The ideas were both innovative and creative and had a local wholly Nigerian touch to them.

Judgements were based on viability, marketability, possibility of job creation, presentation, to name but a few of the criteria.

Nkem Uwaje also presented the youths with opportunities they can explore regarding the World Summit Youth Award (WSYA), an annual online contest focused on promoting excellence in e-content.
